Compromise
1 To those that say, today or tomorrow we will
go to such a city, and continue there a year,
and buy and sell, and get rich: you do not know
what tomorrow shall be. For what is your life?
It is even a vapor that appears for a bit of time
and then vanishes away. You ought to say that
if the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or
that. But now you rejoice in your bragging: all
such rejoicing is evil. So to him that knows to
do well, and does it not, to him it is sin.
2 Rejoice not in iniquity, but rejoice in the
truth; bear all things, believe all things, hope all
things, endure all things. Because love never
fails, but where there are prophecies, they will
fail; where there are tongues, they will cease;
where there is knowledge, it shall vanish away.
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part;
but when that which is perfect is come, then
that which is in part shall be done away.
