1 There has no temptation overtaken you but
that which is common to man: but God is
faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted
above what you are able; but will with the
temptation also make a way to escape, that
you may be able to bear it. So, my dearly
beloved, flee from idolatry. 2 Watch and pray,
that you do not enter temptation: the spirit
indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
3 Blessed is the man that endures temptation:
for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown
of life, which the Lord has promised to them
that love him. Let no one say when he is
tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot
be tempted with evil, neither does he tempt
anyone: but every man is tempted, when he is
drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.
Then when lust has conceived, it brings about
sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings death.
Don’t get it wrong, beloved brethren. 4 For in
that Christ himself has suffered being tested, he
is able to secure them that are tested.
