you may obtain. And everyone that strives for
the mastery is temperate in all things. Now
they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we
for an incorruptible crown. 8 We are confident,
I say, and willing rather to be absent from the
body and to be present with the Lord. So we
labor, that, whether present or absent, we may
be accepted of him.
For we must all appear before the judgment
seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the
things done in his body, according to what he
has done, whether good or bad. Knowing,
therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade
men but we are made manifest unto God, and I
hope, made manifest in your consciences. 9
Jesus said: You have not chosen me, but I have
chosen you, and ordained you, that you should
bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should
remain: that whatever you shall ask of the
Father in my name, he may give it you.
These things I command you that you love one
another. If the world hates you, you know it
hated me before it hated you. If you were of
the world, the world would love its own: but
